Michael part 1

Michael writes with both hands. It is a skill he learned when he broke his right wrist at the age of 6. He realised that he could use his left. It wasn’t particularly strong at first, and he couldn’t write for very long. But it soon became easier. The drawing was the bit that he liked.

Drawing was the only thing Michael was good at. Especially with his left hand. He remembered the day that Jack had told him that he could draw. He remembered it like it was sewn into his memory. If he was having a bad day, that was what he remembered.

When they took the cast off, Michael started swapping around, using the right hand again to build up the strength. For some reason he wanted to keep both hands strong. It was important. What if it was the left hand his brother broke next time? He needed to be able to draw.

He started to use his right hand at school for the lessons he didn’t like. The left hand was reserved for art, or any time he was allowed to draw. So, sometimes other subjects warranted a left hand. Not maths though. Never maths.
